Sign of the Beaver - Book vs Movie
We just finished reading Sign of the Beaver and watching the movie. Compare and contrast the movie with the book. Which did you like better? Please be detailed. Make sure you use capital letters where it is appropriate and end marks with your sentences. Use the worksheet we worked on in class to help you with this post.

ReplyDeleteI liked the movie better than the book. The book did have more details that I wish had been included in the movie, such as the bear attack. That would have been cool to see. I just prefer watching movies than reading books.

I liked the book better because it had more details and it was easier to picture. the book had more information than the movie. The movie was harder to understand because when we read the book I pictured the people differently than the movie. The book on the other hand I understood better because I could picture it like it should actually be.
ReplyDeleteThe things that are different is that there was a bear in the book and there was not a bear in the movie. I liked the movie better because it had more action and excitement in it than the book. The things that are the same is that someone stole matt's gun in the movie and in the book.

ReplyDeleteThe movie and the book were nothing alike. In the book they fought a bear, in the movie they didn't. In the book the bear took Mat's food, in the movie it didn't. In the book the dog got caught in a trap, in the movie it didn't. The dog didn't look as bad as they described it in the book, it looked good in the movie. Some similarities are Ben was in the movie and the book, there was a dog, the family was the same, Ben stole the rifle, and many more.
I like the book better than the movie because it is a lot better and it has a lot of action. The movie skips a lot of parts like the bear part and the dog and fox getting trapped.

I liked the book best because it is more descriptive than the movie. You get to know the characters better in the book. My favorite part of the book was when Matt and Anten killed the bear. That part was not in the movie.

I liked the book so much better.The movie left out the best parts of the book like killing the bear or Attean's dog getting stuck in the trap. The movie was ok it was very different compared to the book.

I enjoyed reading the book better than watching the movie. The movie makers left out my favorite parts. For example, the bear scene where Matt and Attean killed the huge black bear. They also left out when Matt played with the Indian boys. They probably left out those parts because someone could get seriously hurt. Reading the book lets your imagination run wild!

I loved the book.The movie was ok.The book had the bear,and the beaver.The movie has Springville. Matt looked younger than I thought in the movie.I think they should make a sequel to the book.

ReplyDeleteI guess if I could compare sign of the beaver the book with the movie the first thing I would totally say is the book was way better then the movie and most of all they didn't have that much stuff in the movie like the bear I mean they didn't even say anything about the bear and they didn't have Attean's grandmother either so I think the movie wasn't that good
what I think about fifth grade well I guess you could say it's AWESOME. 5th grade at TCPS is great it just gives me a great experience about god. 5th grade is a blessing to all the 5th graders of TCPS it is just great like we do science experiments we learn about the history of mankind and geography but most of all reading. Reading I am going to have to say is my personal favorite. this is Dow #12 and I am out

I liked the book better it was more detailed. The movie I thought felt like it wrote a whole new story with only some of the same things. The bear was not in the movie, the baby was already born in the movie and in the book matt had not seen the baby yet.

The book was more detailed than the movie was because they cut out many important scenes, such as the scene were Matt and Attean killed the bear in the woods, for instance. They took out some of the main parts that were in the book, like the scenes where Attean showed Matt the indian sign of the beaver. They also took out some of the characters that were mentioned in the book, like Attean's sister and his grandmother. They probably did this because it would cost more and they were on a smaller budget. I liked the book a lot more than the movie.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the book more than the movie. The book had more details such as the bear scene. This is were the mama bear is killed. The Indians had a celebration over killing the bear. I get to know more about the characters in the book than in the movie. Some of the characters in the book were left out of the movie.

The Sign of the Beaver book was a lot better than the movie. The setting of the book was different than I had pictured in my mind. The cabin, in my mind, had a little bar, a table in the center, a fireplace right in front of the door, and a stack of fire wood on a fire wood rack on a wall. The character was different than I had imagined. Matt was so much smaller and different than a 13 year old looks now days. I thought Matt would have hair just like us, and he would be bigger. There were a lot of things different between the book and movie. Some different things were that they would show that Atten found his manitou, but they wouldn't show how. Another difference is that Matt went to the village, but it wouldn't show how he got there. They didn't show the dog getting stuck in the iron trap. The most weird thing in the movie is that they didn't show the sign of the beaver. I think that the book was so much more interesting and more imaginable from what we learn in history today.

ReplyDeleteI personally enjoyed the book better than the movie. The book had better development between Matt and Atean. In the movie when Matt was crying about Atean leaving, it felt like he was crying for no reason. But that doesn't mean the movie is bad. I liked how the movie had Matt's family trying to find him. And also the part where Ben was writing in his diary made me laugh! Thomas Taylor

In the movie, it did not show the part about the bear, the part about the fox, and didn't show Atten's grandmother. In the book, Atten didn't learn how to read, but in the movie he did. ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Sign of the Beaver. I thought the cabin seemed the same as I had imagined in the book. In the movie Attean was younger than I thought he was in the book. Matt looked different in the movie than I thought he was going to look. One scene that was not in the movie was when Matt fell out of the tree and the bees were swarming and he had to jump in the river. I guess they left it out of the movie because they did not think it was important. I do think the people that made the movie did a good job portraying the book because it was interesting. I did enjoy the book more than the movie. My favorite part of the book was when the dog got caught in the trap with the fox. In the movie I liked the part when Matt taught Attean how to read the Bible. I really enjoyed the book and the movie! Alex L.
ReplyDeleteI like the book better than the movie because the book has alot of details.The first difference is in the movie the baby is already born but in the book the baby is not born.The second thing is in the movie the bear is not there at all but in the book the two boys (Attean and Matt)killed the bear, the funny part is when Matt throws the rabbit that he killed, at the bear.The third thing is the family did not come to Matt in the wagon and they did not kill the horse like in the movie. The fourth thing is in the movie Katy dies but in the book there is not even a Katy.In the book Attean has sort of a mohawk that is long and braided but in the movie he just has his hair in a PONY TAIL!!! The last difference is when Ben in the movie helps Matts family find their way through the snow to Matt. Also when Ben comes to help the family he has people with him.That is how they are different.Sophie Harrison

I enjoyed the book a lot better than the movie for many reasons. In the book, they show a bear and a beaver, but in the movie there was no bear or beaver. So I am wondering why would the movie be called The Sign of the Beaver if there is no beaver! In the movie Attean wore clothes and shoes but in the book he only wore a cloth skirt. I am having a great day today because it is almost grandparents day and my grandmother is coming to my house to spend the night. Mrs.Hooten has been teaching us alot of new things and I am so excited about that I made new friends. Elizabeth, Amelia, Ann Lindsey, and Sophie play with me almost every day and sometimes I play soccer since it is my favorite sport. Sometimes Jon Michael teaches me some new tricks when I go to his house. It has been a very good week.

I liked the book beter than the movie because the book had more details. In the book when Matt's family was traveling to meet Matt in the wilderness they met Matt with new dishes and other goodies. In the book Matt's family had to kill their horse that carried all their stuff, so they met Matt with nothing. The book and the movie do have many things that are the same like when Ben stole Matt's Father's riffle or when Matt's baby brother died.

The book and the movie are kinda the same, but I liked the book better the book is more discriptive the movie isn't how I thought it would be like. Everbody in the movie was to fake to me. The best part of the book is the part when they kill the bear, when matt just stands there and lets atten do all the work. Matt and atten have the reading leassons and atten hates them.

ReplyDeletei like the movie the best because i know how all the characters look and how it changed some things like instead of seeing a bear they see ben and they fight him for the gun and then they run and he chases them and then he steps in his own trap and matt helps im out but attean left and did not help and like when matts father was on the way with te baby sarah and his wife the horse got sick and he had to kil it and the thing that happened in thebook and the movie is the baby dies jack bridges
ReplyDeleteI liked the book much better than movie cause the movie cut half of the book the movie was like only like an hour and Matt looked like a girl dressed up in guys cloths and the parts in the movie that were cut out they added new scenes. It was funnywhen Matt climbed the bee tree and they cut it out.

I enjoyed the book way better than the movie. Athough if you never read the book than I think the movie would have been more interesting.I thought that the cabin was more closed in by the trees, and the corn patch was right on the side of it. I imagined Attean would wear a breechcloth and have hair only down to his shoulders.I think that the peole left out some scenes like the bear one or the bee tree because of the expense or not being able to look real.I do not think they did a good job portraying the book. They made it way to fake and left out some of the main parts that made it exciting.I liked the book way more than the movie, because it was way more exciting.Anna Mae R.

It was a good book but a few parts were boring.my favorite part was when lumis stole the rifle in the book it had less action in the book the fox was funny because he chued his leg off.In the movie the dad slapped his brother and matt got a nife and wresteld with his uncle.then attean and matt got into a fight nobody won but what do you think about the movie thats the truth sponserd by jackson harris
